In 2010, expatriates ensured an increase in the population of the UAE to 8.26 million people

According to the latest data published on the website of the UAE statistics bureau, in the first half of 2010, the country's population reached 8.26 million people.

Of these 8.26 million, only 11.5%, as of the end of June, are the indigenous inhabitants of the UAE, which is 947,997 people, while the number of expatriates living in the country has reached 7,316,073.

The total population of the country grew by 65% compared with figures for 2006 published on the website of the UAE Bureau of Statistics. However, this increase was provided by immigrants, their growth reached 75% in the period from 2006 to the end of June 2010.

The period of the fastest growth was observed between 2007 and 2008, when the population soared from 6.2 million to more than 8 million people, the city of Dubai had a special influence on this process. Such a leap was associated with a large-scale program of economic growth in various sectors, including real estate, the financial sector and tourism.

It should be noted that in the second half of last year, population growth slowed, and the population of the Emirates increased by about 64 thousand. According to published data, most of the country's citizens, more than 42%, live in the capital of Abu Dhabi. This is more than 400 thousand indigenous people of the UAE, compared with their number in Dubai - 168 thousand. Unfortunately, the number of expatriates for each emirate is not given in the published data.
