UAE citizen is the first Arab woman to conquer the North Pole

Elham Al Qasimi, a citizen of the United Arab Emirates, plans to go on an expedition to the North Pole in April this year. If a girl can fulfill her plan, she will become the first Arab woman whose foot sets foot on the ice of the geographical center of the Arctic basin.

The 27-year-old girl, who belongs to one of the most respected and influential families in the United Arab Emirates, has been preparing for the ski crossing at the North Pole, which is scheduled for April, for half a year already.

An expedition of 100 nautical miles should take from 10 to 14 days. The girl will be accompanied by two specially trained guides with whom she is currently training in the US state of Minnesota. The training program includes not only physical education classes to develop strength and endurance, but also exercises simulating various situations that can happen on an expedition. For example, Elham has already successfully completed a training course, during which she was thrown into the ice hole of a frozen lake and trained to swim out of ice water.

According to Elham, who has been working as an investment adviser in London in recent years, she has long wished to conquer the North Pole. "I kept thinking about what kind of test I could arrange for myself, to become stronger mentally and physically. The expedition to the North Pole always seemed to me just such a test and, after I received the approval from my parents, the preparation began."

The girl decided to coincide with her expedition to a charity: every day Elham will notify everyone about his trip through the social networking site Twitter (her name is @PolarBent) and tell people about the charity organization PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools), which builds self-supporting schools in Africa.
