Sea Heals

Svetlana Gorshkova, a professional cosmetologist in Dubai, will be happy to answer questions from our readers. We are waiting for your letters and suggestions on the topic of beauty and health at [email protected].

Today Svetlana will tell us about one of the most fashionable now and, of course, useful
procedures in beauty salons - thalassotherapy.

Everyone must have heard the word thalassotherapy. Many have already familiarized themselves with this procedure in spa or beauty salons, while the rest only guess what it is. There is an opinion that this expensive type of treatment is "prescribed" exclusively to wealthy ladies who want to get rid of cellulite or lose weight. Not at all! Indeed, thalassotherapy is not only aesthetic, but also a healing procedure, equally useful to men and women, elderly people and children. So what is behind this beautiful word?

Thalassotherapy (the term is derived from the ancient Greek word talassa - sea) is a treatment using sea water, mud, silt, sand, algae and sea air. Even in Ancient Greece, China and Egypt, the unique healing properties of algae were known, and in the Roman Empire, along with the sea, bathing in cold and hot springs was used. Hippocrates, Cicero and Aristotle wrote in their writings about the benefits of swimming in sea water. But, strangely enough, official medicine turned to the sea only in the 18th century, when the English doctor Charles Russell, in his work Using the Sea Water (1753), described its therapeutic effect. The real recognition and the term "thalassotherapy" itself appeared in the 19th century thanks to the studies of French biologists Claude Bernard and Rene Cuthon, who in 1904 made a report at the International Medical Congress on the similarity of the composition of sea water and amniotic fluid.

Modern scientists have proved the identity of the chemical compositions of sea water and blood plasma, and new technologies allow the development of thalassotherapy and create new cosmetic products based on the healing properties of mineral salts, clay and plankton. Sea water is rich in minerals and trace elements, such as sulfur, calcium, magnesium, potassium. Water used for medicinal purposes is extracted far from the coast at a depth of not less than 5 meters. Such water is the purest and saturated with useful substances.

Thalassotherapy is based on balneological methods of treatment, such as massage, algal wraps (algotherapy), special exercises in heated sea water, sea inhalations, souls We who are living in the Emirates are lucky. We are already on the waters. and mud therapy. These procedures have a beneficial effect on circulatory disorders in the legs, joint pain, rheumatism, frequent respiratory diseases, cellulite, stress, insomnia, apathy and fatigue. Contraindications are skin inflammation, infectious and oncological diseases. If the cardiovascular system is disturbed, it is recommended to consult a doctor before starting the course.

Throughout the world, thalassotherapy is considered one of the most popular types of recreation and rehabilitation. The most famous resorts are Antibes and Sea Baths of Monte Carlo on the Mediterranean coast, on the Atlantic coast - the resorts of La Baule, Vannes, Quiberon and Biarizz. New thalassotherapy centers are actively developing. For example, recently Tunisia has become extremely popular.

We, living in the Emirates, are lucky. We are already on the waters. And although there is no specialized thalassotherapy center here yet, in almost all spa and large beauty centers, treatment procedures are carried out using pre-treatments based on sea thermal waters. For example, PHYTOMER and REPECHAGE. Also, a "marine" cosmetic product is the THALGO series. These products are used at Dubai Marine Beach Resort & SPA. The spa centers of hotels such as The Jumeirah Beach, Sheraton Jumeirah Beach, Oasis Beach Hotel, Hilton and Jebel Ali Golf Resort use the English medical cosmetics ELEMIS. And although most of the preparations of this brand are based on aromatic oils, anti-cellulite and detoxification procedures are performed using preparations containing sea salt and algae (Bladderwrack algae). Six Senses SPA (Madinat Jumeirah) works with Australian SODASHI products, at the Ritz Carlton hotel with BABOR (Germany), and at Royal Mirage with co-famous French GIVENCHY. In all these brands, as in many others, there are products containing sea salt, clay, mud and extracts from algae.

Many will find the procedures in high-class institutions very expensive, since they cost an average of 200 to 500 drx., But we must not forget that in all spas there are discount systems. For example, if you buy a package of procedures, go in a group of several people or just pay a full spa-day - huge discounts. In addition, one such "trip" will energize you for a long time.

In our crazy time of high technology, computerization and a frantic pace, when depression and stress are no longer considered moods and a bad mood, turning into serious diseases, short breaks are simply needed. Look around, look inside yourself ...

Life was born in the ocean - and, probably, therefore, the water acts on us so pacifyingly, and the sea air saturated with ozone heals. Sometimes it’s just necessary to go to the sea! It is so nice to swim in warm water, and wander barefoot in the wet sand in the evening. So enjoy this air, sea and thalassotherapy - an invaluable gift that nature has awarded us.
