UAE and Saudi Arabia form a military alliance

The UAE has entered into a military, political, economic and trade alliance with the largest country on the Arabian Peninsula.

On Tuesday, the UAE government announced the formation of a new alliance with Saudi Arabia, designed to bring the two countries together in key areas such as defense, the economy, and political cooperation.

News of the adoption of the relevant Presidential Decree appeared on the eve of the summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Kuwait, which, as a rule, is attended not by heads of state, but mainly by ministers from participating countries.

According to the resolution of President Sheikh Khalifa, the union will coordinate the military, political, economic, trade, cultural and other spheres in the interests of the two countries.

From the UAE, he will be led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Chairman of the committee decides on the appointment of committee members from representatives of federal and local authorities in the country, as well as business representatives.

The establishment of the union and the wide range of its powers is further evidence of the strengthening of ties between the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Marcel Wahba, president of the Washington Institute of the Gulf States, said that preparations have been underway in both countries for several months to establish a committee.

"Today’s official decree, which established a cooperation committee between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, was not a surprise, its preparation was carried out in advance," she said.

Let me remind you that the head of the UAE, King Salman, made a state visit to the UAE. Sheikh Mohammed introduced the monarch to the Zayed Medal, the highest state award, noting the "paradigm shift in bilateral relations" between states.
