A permanent memorial in honor of the founder of the UAE will open in Abu Dhabi.
Dubai, UAE. A permanent memorial will open in Abu Dhabi in honor of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first president, founder of the United Arab Emirates and the Father of the nation. To create the memorial, it is planned to collect rare photos and videos, as well as personal stories from the life of Sheikh Zayed.
The memorial will be opened at the beginning of 2018, dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Sheikh Zayed, and will introduce visitors to his life and legacy. Trees and shrubs characteristic of the Arabian Peninsula region will be planted on the territory to recall Sheikh Zayed's commitment to caring for nature.
A pedestrian walkway with a lift will lead to a central fresco on which the founder of the nation will be depicted against the backdrop of a panorama of Abu Dhabi. The memorial will be located at the intersection of first and second streets, along the promenade of Abu Dhabi, and will occupy an area of 3.3 hectares.
