In the UAE, mourning for the president’s mother is declared

The Ministry of Presidential Affairs of the United Arab Emirates has announced an official three-day mourning for the president’s mother.

Sheikh Hess Bint Mohammed Al Nahyan, the mother of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the first wife of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, the founder of the UAE, died in the UAE. The Ministry of Presidential Affairs announces an official three-day mourning in the country, starting today.

Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid, vice president and ruler of Dubai, wrote on Twitter: "I express my sincere condolences to my brother Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the death of Her Highness Sheikh Hessa Bint Muhammad Al Nahyan."

Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces paid tribute to Sheikh Hessa.

Sheikh Hess was the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the great-granddaughter of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa.
