The government of Dubai will completely refuse paper

After 2021, no employee or customer of the Dubai government will have to print any paper document.

Sheikh Hamdan Ibn Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Board of Dubai, initiated a “paper abandonment strategy in Dubai” while visiting the head office of Smart Dubai Office in the Dubai Design District.

The new strategy is based on the principles of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Ibn Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, aimed at turning Dubai into a smart city.

“What we are seeing today is another page of Dubai’s journey towards the global use of smart technology,” said Sheikh Hamdan. "The paper abandonment strategy in Dubai embodies the leadership’s commitment to a smart government that uses cutting-edge technology to create an integrated government structure without the use of paper. Ultimately, this initiative will make people happier and meet the needs of the cities of the future."

"After 2021, no employee or customer of the Dubai government will need to print any document," said Sheikh Hamdan. “This reflects a holistic vision of our role as people, not only in relation to Dubai, but also in relation to the world as a whole. The rejection strategy in Dubai will save more than a billion sheets of paper used by the government of Dubai today.”

In turn, Smart Dubai Office CEO Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr added: “We have now taken on an ambitious mission to turn Dubai into the most progressive and successful city in the world in record time. We will make every effort to make this path the most safe and efficient, meeting the needs and expectations of residents and guests of Dubai, we at Smart Dubai are constantly presenting bold new projects and services that will help achieve this mission.
