Emirates buys additional Airbus aircraft

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Emirates Sheikh Ahmed discussed the increase in the amount of contracts for the supply of aircraft.

On Sunday, Emirates signed a contract to purchase 36 $ 16 billion Airbus A380 aircraft. It is worth noting that this contract is the largest purchase of the world's largest passenger aircraft.

For the first time, a deal for the supply of 20 two-story aircraft with the possibility of an additional purchase of 16 aircraft was announced in mid-January. According to a representative of the airline in Dubai, aircraft deliveries will begin in 2020.

Earlier, Airbus said that if Emirates did not agree to such a big deal, the aircraft company would have to stop production of the A380.

Along with the signing of the contract, during the meeting, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and Emirates Board Chairman Sheikh Ahmed Ibn Saeed Al Maktoum discussed the expansion of air traffic between France and the UAE.

With the latest order, the Emirates fleet will have 178 A380 units. The company also considers the engines that will be equipped with new aircraft.
