UAE introduces new millionth fine for companies

In the United Arab Emirates will be fined a million for dishonest waste management.

The UAE Federal National Council passed a new waste management bill to improve environmental protection and public health.

Under the new bill, companies that dispose of, organize landfills, or incinerate waste in inappropriate places, such as open areas, roads, public parks or waterways, will be fined one million dirhams ($ US 272 million).

The law applies to all waste management processes, from production, classification, collection to transportation, storage, processing and disposal throughout the country, including free zones. However, it excludes nuclear and radioactive waste.

According to the Federal Tax Service, the bill is an important step towards environmental protection and public health control. He will also support the UAE's efforts to introduce smart and sustainable waste management solutions.

To date, the UAE has one of the highest rates in terms of waste per capita in the world. Each resident generates over a kilogram of new waste per day.
