Police reminds UAE residents of fines for private transportation

The police recalls that engaging in a private carriage in the UAE is punishable by fines and car confiscation.

Dubai, UAE. Abu Dhabi police recall that engaging in a private carriage in the country is punishable by a fine of 3,000 dirhams (US $ 822), 24 penalty points and a car confiscation for 30 days.

The police said that the authorities banned private taxi services to protect members of the public from possible crimes and other troubles. "A number of crimes are associated with private cabling, such as sexual harassment, theft, fraud, scandals, and the driver can be a violator of migration laws," said team leader Ibrahim Al Zaabi, director of the Department of Transport Security.

For the first half of 2018, more than two thousand illegal taxi drivers were fined in Abu Dhabi. Last year, the Dubai Roads and Transport Committee also suspended licenses for car sharing services (carpooling) to encourage all residents of the emirate to use public transport services.
