Children will advise the UAE government

The government of the United Arab Emirates has selected young consultants to advise leaders.

Nine young emirates from 12 to 15 years old have been appointed by the UAE government to consult state leaders on various issues, ranging from health care to bullying.

The initiative belongs to Sheikh Fatima Bint Mubarak, High Chairperson of the Family Development Fund. Earlier, the UAE Cabinet of Ministers decided to expand and stimulate the participation of young emirates in the political life of the country. By decision of the Cabinet, the board of directors of any government body should now include at least one emirate who has not reached the age of 30.

Increasing the participation of young emirates in political life has been a priority for the government for several years. In 2016, 22-year-old Shamma al-Mazrui was appointed the first state minister of the UAE for youth affairs. She became the youngest politician in such a position in the world.

"We serve as a bridge with children across the country so that their voice can be heard by decision makers," said Salama Saif, 12-year-old president of the youth group.

“Children can notice what adults have missed. We will help with ideas that can influence the development of the nation,” said 14-year-old Vadima al-Daramki.

One of the biggest problems faced by children, members of the youth group called bullying (bullying by peers).

Gate Al-Gefli of the youth group said: “Some children are suffering, but they are too afraid to talk about it. We are trying to reach out to these children and give them confidence so that they can speak.”
