Russia will prepare the first emirate cosmonaut

The first cosmonaut from the United Arab Emirates will be trained in Russia.

Dubai, UAE. The first cosmonaut from the United Arab Emirates will undergo training in Russia, said Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, who is visiting Abu Dhabi. He noted that a corresponding agreement was reached between the emirate side and representatives of the Russian Space Agency.

Earlier, Sergey Krikalev, director of the manned programs of Roscosmos, spoke of possible assistance to the UAE in the selection and training of astronauts. The Director General of the UAE Space Agency Mohammed Al Ahbabi reported that the country expects to send the first cosmonaut into orbit in 2021.
