In the UAE, the court rejected the request of three women to change sex

The Federal Court of Appeal rejected the request of three young women from the UAE who decided to change their gender.

In the UAE, a court rejected a women’s collective request for gender change. Women wanted to become men and register new male names in the state national registry.

All women under 25 years old, they went to court with a request to allow them to change their gender after several lengthy operations abroad.

Women submitted several documents and medical reports from a number of European hospitals to the court that recommended sex reassignment surgery.

Applicants' lawyer Ali Abdul Al Mansouri previously stated that his clients had undergone a number of gender reassignment operations in Europe. The fact is that women have congenital pathologies, as well as developed male signs, such as an abundance of hair on the legs, low voices, etc., which "distinguishes them from other women."

He noted that clients have a large number of "medical documents" confirming the need for gender reassignment surgery. Now they want to receive official permission to change their gender and register new names in the state register.

Al Mansouri challenged in the Court of Appeal the decision of the trial court, which rejected the request for a gender change, but admitted that the women had irreversible hormonal deviations.

"The report of the medical committee was rather scarce and did not take into account the fact that young women have suffered since childhood," the lawyer said.

Al Mansouri claims that women felt more like men from early childhood. Rejection of their request will only lead to a deep depression of the applicants.

"They felt like prisoners in their female bodies and wanted to get rid of this oppressive feeling by receiving a positive court decision," the lawyer added.

Recall that earlier the Federal Court of First Instance rejected the request of women to change sex. However, the women decided to challenge the decision in the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Al Mansouri said that they will continue to appeal to the UAE Supreme Court.
