In the UAE will be fined for insulting the elderly

The UAE Parliament approved a bill to protect the country's elderly.

Dubai, UAE. The UAE Federal National Council approved a draft law on the protection of older people - Emirates from the age of 60. The document prescribes the creation of special teams of qualified specialists who will monitor the observance of the rights of the older generation.

It is noted that today more than 25 thousand citizens over 60 live in the UAE. The new law will guarantee the observance of their rights, as well as equal access to the sphere of social services. The bill contains 23 articles relating to the right to privacy, work and education, social security and health care.

The document provides penalties for violation of the rights of older people and improper treatment of them. So, social workers who committed negligence, which caused an elderly person to be injured, or abused their official position, will be fined from 10 to 50 thousand dirhams and / or sentenced to imprisonment.

Any violence against a helpless elderly person will also be prosecuted - violators face similar fines and up to two years in prison. If the law is violated by a specialized organization for caring for the elderly, the amount of fines will increase to 1 million dirhams.

The bill involves the creation of a hotline, calling on which older people will be able to talk about the violation of their rights. At the same time, relatives who take care of elderly parents or family members will be provided with benefits and financial support.
