In Dubai, taxi license plate holders will receive compensation

According to the Decree of the Ruler of Dubai, owners of taxi license plates will be paid monthly compensation.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a decree establishing monetary compensation for taxi licensee holders used by the Dubai Traffic and Transportation Authority (RTA).

Decree No. 8 of 2018 establishes monthly compensation payable to owners or rightholders of taxi license plates.

According to the decree, taxi license plates can be used by RTA or by a counterparty that has received a taxi operator license in Dubai from the RTA. According to the decree, the RTA is obliged to pay monthly compensation to the owners or copyright holders of taxi license plates for their use.

After receiving a taxi license plate, its owner or copyright holder will receive a payment of 170 thousand dirhams from the RTA. The amount may be changed after agreement with the Dubai Department of Finance.

The RTA may revoke and confiscate the license plate if it is not in use. The ruler of Dubai authorized the Head of the Department of Traffic and Transport of Dubai to adopt any by-laws and rules necessary to implement the decree.

The decree will be published in the "Official Gazette" and will enter into force 60 days after publication.
